My younger sister is a chain smoker. Now she is pregnant and I am too much worried for her. I have heard a disorder Down syndrome that is inherited in kids. I want to know does use of drugs and alcohols in a parent before or during pregnancy can cause children to have Down syndrome. Can ayurvedic therapy help children with DS? What is the procedure of cranial therapy that is used to treat DS?

No, use of drugs or alcohols in a parent before or during pregnancy does not cause children to have Down syndrome but the child may suffer from any mental disorder. Smoking should be stopped during this period as it can increase the problems associated with placenta. The new baby of chain-smoker may suffer from developmental problems. Craniosacral therapy is the most effective therapy for the treatment of children with Down syndrome. No, it is not true s Down syndrome occurs at conception so nothing during pregnancy can cause Down syndrome. Researches also shows that parents who are consuming drugs and alcohol during pregnancy does not have increased risk of giving birth to down syndrome babies. No, at present time ayurvedic medicine is not prove to be effective for sown syndrome patient. Before performing cranial therapy there is an initial assessment of pain, sleep, depression, anxiety etc of the patient. Women who can give birth to a child were assessed after their menstrual period ended. This assessment will be repeated after the 25 week treatment programs which started after last session of 30 min, six months and 1 year.

According to doctors DS cannot be caused due to any drugs or alcohol consumed during pregnancy. But some other type of problems can occur so you must ask your sister to give up her smoking habit. Ayurvedic therapy is natural ways of treating any disease. It is also helpful in healing DS. However, to have better effects it has to be taken under supervision of experienced therapists. Cranial is one of effective ways of reducing risks related with this disease. Cranial therapy for DS claims that some manipulations in skull bones can help in reducing number of diseases attached with DS.

No, using drugs and alcohol in pregnancy can not cause Down syndrome because this syndrome occurs at the time of conception. On the ayurvedic treatment of DS, studies are still going on. According to the scientists cranial therapy state that skull bones can be controlled to ease many disorders. But in reality, skull bones start combining in infancy and become absolutely solid by the teenage. This therapy is not useful in the case of DS.
