It’s very difficult to face that someone, who is very close to you, is cutting or self-harming. Talk to your son patiently and avoid hypercritical and judgmental comments for stopping the self-harming behavior. Understanding why he is self-injuring can help you see the things from his eyes; that will give you a new perspective and making you more mentally prepared to help. Let him know that how much you care about him and are available to listen and then be available. You must encourage expressions of emotions, including anger. You should spend time doing enjoyable activities together. If necessary you can also take some professional help.

Cutting is a way some teens try to cope with the pain of strong emotions, intense pressure, or upsetting relationship problems. Scolding someone who self harms, or simply taking away the materials they use to harm themselves, will not address the underlying issues of why they engage in this behavior. There are some ways to cope up with your situation. You should begin therapy with a trained counselor. Use exercise and sports as a means to physically express him.
