Solution for teen with speech difficulty and low I.Q. level
My cousin is suffering from speech and language impairments and he is less intelligent in comparison to other boys of his age. What might be the cause of his low Q level? I want to know whether he requires surgery to remove speech and language abnormalities or it can be treated by certain medications.

Your cousin is suffering from learning disability problem. In this problem teen can’t recognize the words, unable to communicate, unable to understand sentences and low I.Q. Causes are: mental illness, depression and low self esteem problems. Speech therapy is a very essential treatment for children with learning disability. Because children with learning disability problem often have enunciation problems. A speech psychoanalyst will work with an individual to help them to remove speech and language abnormalities.

Learning disability is a disorder in which a person has difficulty learning in a typical manner. The unknown factor is the disorder that affects the brain's ability to receive and process information. Some causes of low Q level are Heredity, Accidents after birth, Poverty etc. The primary forms of treatment for learning disabilities are remedial education and psychotherapy. Psychotherapy deals with the emotional and behavioral problems associated with the condition. Both psychoanalytic and behaviorally oriented methods are used in therapy for children with learning disabilities. Three drugs Ritalin, Dexedrine, and Cylert have been used successfully for the treatment of learning disability.

Your cousin might be suffering from Deletion Syndrome. Surgery is required in some cases not in all. Medications along with therapies can reduce the speech and language abnormalities and remove permanently if practice regularly. There are number of medical clinics, hospitals and treatment centers that provide effective treatments for the teens with Deletion syndrome.

There is a possibility that your cousin is suffering from DiGeorge deletion syndrome due to which is he is fighting with low IQ level as this is a cognitive defects deficits associated with deletion syndrome. It is seen that some of the speech and language abnormalities associated with DiGeorge syndrome are generally treated by speech therapy alone but in some cases it requires surgery along with speech therapy.

Teens face such type of problems due to many reasons. Deletion syndrome infected children may also have these difficulties. Doctors suggest variety of programs that help teens to develop their skills in these fields. Some of these programs are named as speech therapy, psychotherapy, educational consultancy and counseling programs. Some drugs are also prescribed by doctors to diminish these abnormalities. Surgery for removing speech and language abnormalities is not much effective.

According to the symptoms of your cousin it is clear that he is suffering from Down syndrome and this is the major cause of his low IQ level. Best possible treatments for speech and language abnormalities can be therapies such as sensory integration therapy, feeding therapy as well as other complementary therapies. You can motivate him to join some of the Down syndrome treatment centers there he will get these therapies in highly structured environment which will take him out of danger a soon as possible.
