Autistic child
Who is an autistic child?
These are the children suffering from Autism or Autistic disorder. It is a neural development disorder. Children suffering from autism have difficulty in developing normal relationships with others. These people are characterized by weak communication skills and impaired social relations. They find difficulty in interpreting indirect communication like facial expression. Some autistic children find difficulty in speaking while few on them can never speak. Autism mostly occurs in kids before the age of three.
Causes of Autistic Child
There are different physical causes of autistic child which includes various hereditary, contagious and disturbing factors. Sometime medical conditions also result in autism like fragile X syndrome, untreated PKU and etc. The environmental factors combined with genetic reasons may cause increased risk of autistic disorder.
Symptoms of Autistic Child
The symptoms of troubled children are listed below
- Poor nonverbal communication
- Lack of expression of feelings
- Difficulty interaction
- Repetition of words while speaking
- Resist changes
- Compulsive behavior
Effects of Autism
It affects the personal as well as social living of the patients. They find difficulty in social interaction and communication. It affects the person’s behavior in several ways, some of which is mentioned below
- person becomes uncommunicative
- has problem in speaking and learning
- doesn’t want to interact with others
- engaged in repetitive action
- uncontrollable temper
Treatment for this disorder
Treatment therapies for autistic disorder include different kind of medication, behavioral and complementary therapies.
Medication- Medication does not cure the problem but it helps in prevention of various risk factors associated with the disease. Most common drugs during medication are antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants, stimulants and anticonvulsants.
Behavioral therapies- It helps the struggling kids to improve their communication skills, social behavior and intellectual power. The behavioral therapies offered by treatment centers are based on principles of applied behavioral analysis (ABA).
Complementary therapies- These includes different kinds of art therapy, music therapy and animal therapy. Art therapy helps the children to develop ways of expressing their feelings. Animal therapy like horse riding helps the patients to build self confidence.
